KBA Field Day w/ Ted Sims @Kentucky Country Day

A spring hive inspection involves carefully examining the condition of bee colonies as winter transitions into spring. This inspection typically focuses on assessing the health and strength of the colony, checking for signs of disease or pests, evaluating the queen's performance and egg-laying activity, and ensuring that the hive has an adequate food supply. Beekeepers may also use this opportunity to perform any necessary hive maintenance or adjustments to support the colony's growth and productivity during the upcoming season. Overall, a spring hive inspection plays a crucial role in maintaining the well-being and productivity of bee colonies as they prepare for the warmer months ahead.

KBA In-Person Field Day @ Louisville Nature Center

We will meet at the Louisville Nature Center and take a look at our KBA hives. Please bring a bee suit, if you do not have one, we do have some extra. We will be suspending the virtual attendance option with the lifting of the pandemic restrictions in Kentucky, so no virtual option going forward. We do hope to see you in person again!

What’s going on in the hive in June? Does the colony need more room for egg laying or honey production? Do you need to extract honey? Are we still having a nectar flow?
